UAE visa and medical, full first-year cost

Most “visa for AED X” quotes show only the stamping fee. Add the medical test, Emirates ID, basic health insurance, typing centre charges, and the change-of-status step. The real first-year number almost doubles.

What each fee means

Medical fitness test

Mandatory medical screening at a DHA or MOH-approved centre. Standard service runs AED 320 to AED 550. VIP fast-track centres can push to AED 900+.

Emirates ID (2-year)

Emirates ID issuance fee for a 2-year normal visa, plus AED 100 typing centre charge. Service add-ons and urgent processing add more.

Mandatory medical insurance (annual)

Basic DHA-compliant health insurance is legally required before the visa is stamped. Entry-tier plans start near AED 600. Mid-tier lands around AED 1,200. Premium stacks higher.

Typing centre & service fees

Amer / Tas'heel / typing centre charges for entry permit and visa application forms. Expect AED 150 to AED 350 per step depending on the provider.

Change of status (inside UAE)

If you are converting from a visit or tourist visa without exiting the country, change-of-status fees apply. Skip this line if you plan to do an out-of-country stamp.

Common questions

Why does my visa quote only show AED 3,000 ish?
That number is usually just the entry permit and stamping. The medical screening, Emirates ID, basic health insurance, and typing centre charges are billed separately and land after the quote is accepted.
Is medical insurance really mandatory?
Yes. A DHA-compliant health insurance policy is required before the visa is stamped. Employers sometimes cover it, but if it is on you, AED 600 to AED 1,500 per year is the realistic range for basic plans.
How long is an Emirates ID valid?
Emirates ID validity usually matches your visa term. A 2-year normal visa pairs with a 2-year EID at AED 370 plus typing charges. Renewal repeats the same stack.
What is a change of status?
If you are already inside the UAE on a tourist or visit visa, you can switch to a normal visa without leaving. That convenience adds an extra government fee, typically around AED 640.
Does this cover golden or freelance visas?
This calculator targets a standard employer-sponsored normal visa. Golden visa, freelance permit, and investor visa stacks have different base fees and extras. Treat this as a baseline, not a final invoice.

How HiddenFees fits your move: choose rent, business setup, or lifestyle calculators based on whether you are relocating, launching in DMCC or another free zone, or comparing school fees. Enter the headline figure from any ad or proposal, whether that is AED 8,000 monthly rent, a license quote, or published tuition, and we layer in the fees people usually meet after commitment. Each tool maps known UAE charges such as 5% agency commission, 5% Dubai municipality housing fees collected through DEWA, Ejari registration, refundable utility deposits, establishment cards, and other recurring setup costs that rarely appear in the first conversation. The totals are planning estimates: your building, free zone, or contract may differ, but you leave with a budget tied to how Dubai bills in practice, not a marketing teaser. HiddenFees is built for anyone who wants honest numbers before signing. We foreground the line items sales quotes skip, including housing fees on DEWA bills, DEWA and chiller deposits, and business steps beyond the license fee, so you can compare scenarios and negotiate from the number your account actually sees.
